I look back on my employment at Shopsmith Inc as a play with several acts. I began as a retails sales clerk at the Shopsmith Factory Showroom in Dayton, Ohio in March 1987. I've attached the agenda document from that first month's new employee orientation training. That course was structured more for the traveling sales reps, but they also had the retail salesman attend the first week or two to get down all of the product and their demos. Our instructors for the class were Gary Ellis and Larry Raines, who were both legends in the company. After a few months in the Dayton Showroom I was asked to move to the Boston area to manage Shopsmith's newest store that was due to open in October of 1987. We opened the store on Saturday October 17th and had the best opening day in Shopsmith's history. This was of course followed by Black Monday on October 19th, when the stock market crashed! More to come... |
